Clottey proves he can survive from Pacquiao’s attack

Pacquiao and the giant punching bag

After the interrupted Pacquiao – Mayweather bout few months ago, Team Pacquiao decided to go for the bigger Joshua “Grandmaster” Clottey. It was very obvious that it’s not the fight people want to see, which makes it not exciting at all even during the fight night.

Manny Pacquiao dominated over Clottey with his super speed and strong punches, Saturday night at the Cowboy Stadium in Dallas Texas. But Clottey is really rock solid. He played a good defense that even Pacquiao’s combos did not work. But the thing is, Clottey was just there to stand and serve as a giant punching bag for Manny. As Freddie Roach said, you can’t win by good defense alone.

It also looked like there’s only one thing Joshua Clottey wanted to prove: that he can take Pacquiao’s punches and he’s too strong to be knocked out. During the interview, he told that Manny did not hurt him at all and that’s what he trained for. He also thinks he did his best because Manny was knocking out every of his past opponents.

On one of the pre-fight interviews, Clottey told that Manny is not going to attack. Instead, he will be attacking Manny. But it’s obviously did not happen. From the time Clottey entered the ring, the only thing he had on mind was to survive.

Pacquiao’s gloves were loaded

It’s once again a certain mark in the history of boxing, as Manny Pacquiao did something no one else has ever done. He won his new championship belt, making him the lone boxer to achieve such milestone. Seven championships. Seven Divisions.

Before you continue reading on, let me tell you that this post is being written by a noob blogger, who doesn’t even know how to blog about something like this, so proceed at your own risk.

For me, the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto was a good one. It was pure, clean and fair. The earlier rounds showed a no doubt win for Pacquiao, as he put Miguel Cotto down on the canvas on the 3rd and 4th rounds. Albeit, the fight wasn’t that easy for Pacquiao. His signature move, quick jab/flash-to-the-left, wasn’t successful by any chance. Miguel Cotto did a good job on checking that move, which gave him a bigger chance of survival.

Yeah, that one might have dislocated those joints.

Yeah, that must have dislocated those joints.

Cotto was also able to land a couple of solid punches to Pacquiao, including body shots, an uppercut, and a big left hook that swollen Pacquiao’s right ear. But then, he also realized that he’s not gonna last longer if he continuously exchange punches with Pacquiao. Later in the rounds, Cotto started backing away from Pacquiao. At some points, Pacquiao seems to get bored with Cotto’s style, making him stop and think for a while if it’s still worth an attack. During that time, I wanted Pacquiao to stop in the middle of the ring, raise both his hands way up high to the crowd, wear an insulting smile, like he’s already declared the winner. Cotto, even if he don’t admit, was obviously only trying to have a nice shot to throw a solid punch at Pacquiao. In that case, Pacquiao offered what Cotto wants by just standing straight up, by the ropes, by the corner, in the middle of the ring, and let Cotto show what he’s got. And it happened not only once, but many times.

That manner that Pacquiao showed is not impressive though. It made me think for a while that maybe he’s troubled by Cotto, and he’s doing it because he didn’t know what to do. But in the end, I kinda realized that he was just testing how strong and solid were those punches, compared to what Joe Santiago and Miguel was bragging about before the fight.

55 secs in the 12th round was the official Knockout marked. So my question to you guys is, what round did Miguel Cotto knew and accepted his second loss? I say, when he started backing away.

And I wonder what Manny haters would say. Cotto was weight-drained, maybe? Or Manny’s gloves were loaded? Well, they were indeed. Naturally…

Manny Pacquiao – Miguel Cotto Predictions

What’s gonna happen come the fight night, broadcasts today here on this very blog. So read on.

True boxing critiques might have different opinions on who will prosper come the fight night. Freddie Roach is looking for a round 1 knock out, Cotto going down. Some say Manny will knock Cotto out in the early rounds. Some say Cotto is too tough for Manny to knock out, because Cotto is naturally bigger and a true welterweight fighter. Others say Cotto wins via unanimous decision. Cotto wins by knockout if Manny will be careless.

While others predicts for fight results, others are already talking about who the fighters will fight next, regardless of who wins between them.

All those are just predictions, because nobody has really seen the results. But there are few things that are quite recurring scenarios in the Philippines every single time Manny climbs up the ring.

Come the fight night:

  • Silence will overcome the roads of the Philippines, as the fight night opens. Vehicles on the road will pull over to their garages, little by little.
  • Crime rate will drop in full speed down to zero, and will surges up like rising voltage right after the fight ends.
  • The National Anthem of the Philippines will be sang on the ring once again. That might lead the performers to controversy if they will sing it wrongly. Getting convicted is a possibility.
  • As usual, Manny will kneel down on four corners of the ring as he climbs up, but might forget one corner because of a big obstacle that is Cotto.
  • Faces of some Filipino politicians will be on the screen for at least a second. They are not there to watch Manny, nor to put on their bets. They are there to show the poor Filipinos that they can afford to be there. And give some hints on where the taxes go.
  • There will be few undercard fights before the main event. During that time, there will be lesser commercials on Solar Sports and GMA 7.
  • Tried and tested, commercials in between the rounds, when Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto starts exchanging punches, will be longer than the whole fight itself.
  • Restaurants will take advantage of the event to encourage customers. Later they will realize that their sales are actually down by more than 50%, because customers did not order anything. And some customers will forget to pay the bills.
  • Short messages will clogged the textwaves because people who were able to watch the fight LIVE in cinemas and other sources will text their friends non-stop about the result of the fight until their friends are pissed.
  • When it comes to internet, there will be at least two bloggers who will try to cover the fight via “Round by Round” blog. Some will also try to do it “Punch by Punch” or “Blow by Blow” whichever they prefer.

Pacquiao – Cotto 24/7 on HBO Channel

Yesterday, we had the interview with the worlds Trainer of the Year, Freddie Roach. The interview was quick, but it went like just a casual conversation where we did not focus on technical details so much. One of the goals is to bring entertainment value and it’s a successful one. {Interview with Freddie Roach}

As you all boxing fans know, HBO runs a documentary about big fights, they called 24/7. The episodes for the November 14 fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto started last Saturday, and to those who do not follow HBO on TV, you may also see some clips on their HBO Channel in YouTube. And though they are just clips, it’s still as good as the full version.

Below is the Round 1 of the 24/7 coverage subbed as Face Off.

DJ Vicky Belo sits in today, Freddie Roach visiting on Monday

We’re kinda getting used to Vicky being a substitute DJ. She contributes and participates well in the conversation and she’s very cool. Most importantly, generous. The last time she sat in with the DJ’s, she donated 10,000 pesos cold cash straight from her bag just for the game. Today, 5,000 pesos. She can be a bitch, but she preferred not to.

Like what we expect, calls about boob jobs, skin care, weight loss, and thing regarding beatifying oneself will come in. Vicky was always kind enough to share beauty tips and how things are done, but when it comes to pricing, she only had one answer; 819-BELO.

Of course, for her to feel like a real DJ, she has to have a DJ name. Someone suggested DJ Chop-Chop Vicky. I guess DJ 819 is perfect. Whatever.

Anyways, coming to the show on Monday is Manny Pacquiao’s trainer, a 3-time Trainer of the Year, Coach Freddie Roach. He’s not gonna talk about Manny Pacquiao’s training progress, but he’s more concern about the recent calamities that victimized many. He’s also going to talk about the current political situation in the country and how he can help on getting the country on the right track. Let’s also prepare for the announcement of his Facebook and Twitter account, so we can then keep ourselves updated on Manny Pacquiao’s condition.

A Michael Jackson impersonator is also guesting on Monday. Mo said he moves, talks and looks like the late King of Pop.

Let’s all watch out! Good times!

Hatton might consider retirement, take the avenue of promotion

Ricky Hatton on one of his pre-fight interviews.

Ricky Hatton on one of his pre-fight interviews.

After a 2-round TKO defeat from opponent Manny Pacquiao, the British brawler Ricky Hatton admits in an interview that he was devastated and still undecided if he’s gonna fight again after the last. Hatton also told Sky Sport in an interview that he had not anticipated the left hook that destroyed him on the 2nd round.

He also added that if they have only gone a few rounds more, the result might be different, but Manny caught him with the ‘first punch’ he practically threw. That’s what he said. But he also added that he’d rather like what happened, knocked out in 2 rounds, than have had been outclassed by Manny Pacquiao the whole 12 rounds. I think he has a point.

I’ve lost twice and I’ve lost to the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, it’s not a bad way of looking at it, but I’m devastated. I would not have put my money on that happening.

- Ricky Hatton

When asked about Mayweather Sr.’s suggestion to retire, he said:

I really don’t know at the minute, because I never thought that was ever going to happen. But people are still going to see plenty of me.

I’ve been a great world champion, I’ve been the best in the world, and I think I can be the best promoter in the world and I think that is the avenue I want to go down.
